Edison Chen (陳冠希; pinyin: Ch?n Gūanxī) (born October 7, 1980) is a popular Hong Kong teen idol. He is an artist of the Emperor Entertainment Group.
Born in Vancouver, Canada, Chen has starred in many films including Infernal Affairs and Twins Effect. He also sings cantopop and can speak English language|English, Cantonese (linguistics)|Cantonese, Mandarin (linguistics)|Mandarin, and Japanese language|Japanese. Like many foreign-born Chinese, however, Edison does not have a perfect command of Cantonese or Mandarin because of his poor pronunciation, heavy Canadian accent, and the lack of intelligibility of his songs among Chinese listeners.
He is idolized for his "cool" attitude and his good looks, though critics cite him as conceited (or "choon" in Cantonese). In March 2004, http://newswww.bbc.net.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3516974.stm Edison Chen was brutally assaulted by two teenagers, aged 15 and 17, in downtown Hong Kong. The two teenagers apparently mocked Edison by breakdancing in front of Edison as he was leaving a hair salon. One of the teenagers swung at Edison and hit him in the right ear. The two teens ran off whilst Edison gave chase for nine city blocks before returning to the same shopping arcade. There he called his "assistants" (Triads in actuality) to look for the two teens. They were eventually caught on a bus.
Edison recently starred in the film Jiang Hu in which his character had to rape a dog as a punishment.
